- Argentina has perhaps the most passionate fans in the world, how is that possible?
Argentinians are some of the most passionate people in the world. That can mean football, politics, or particularly live music. In fact if you see a rock concert here, it all becomes clear. - How come no away fans are welcome at matches in Argentina?
There are no way fans allowed at games in BA since 2013. This this is due to the violence not between regular match going fans, but between the more radical barra brava elements of the fanbase. Some remote provinces far from BA do make exceptions when the biggest teams visit but it’s infrequent. - How does the economic situation in Argentina (inflation, dollar restrictions) affect the club's ability to retain and sign players?
- Economic matters for sure have an impact. Argentine clubs are effectively obliged to sell if an offer from a big European league comes in. This has led to the ongoing disparity with the Brazilian clubs. They have won the last seven Copa Libertadores as they are higher up the food chain than Argentinian clubs who cannot retain or repatriate talented players as effectively as Brazil.
- What are the biggest goals for River Plate in the 2025/2026 season – both in the league and Libertadores?
Moment of 2025 was the stunning Mastantuono free kick vs Boca. A historic moment in both the superclasico history and his own story. He was in Madrid to sign less than two months later. - How do you view the rivalry with Boca Juniors?
The rivalry with Boca is probably the best in the world. The passion, fanbases and importance of both teams is not matched by many derbies. Outside Europe is often romanticised as the poor vs the rich, but a huge portion of Argentina pays not attention to that stereotype and leans the opposite direction to the ficticious rule. - What is the greatest moment in the club's history according to you personally? and why? The greatest moment for River was 9/12/18. We became the only team to win a Champions League or Copa Libertadores final vs our greatest rival.
- Monumental – how are the thoughts on the renovation and possibly increasing the capacity to 85,000+? Rumour has it el Monumental will expand again to 90,000 and get a roof by 2030. Let’s see what the new president does next…
- What do you think about VAR and how it has affected Argentine football? VAR is used badly in Argentina with huge delays for replays. I think breaks need to be limited to 90 seconds or they play on if they still can’t identify a definite foul. Suspicion always remains common as well that the corrupt federation’s favoured clubs benefit most.
- Who could be the next Aimar and Saviola at the club? Do you have the same development of players as before? River Plate has a prolific academy. Just look at the impact Julian Alvarez and Enzo Fernandez had on the last World Cup. Other Players have signed for Man City and Real Madrid in recent years. One of the club’s biggest sources of pride is the academy which just won a big U-16 honour (the Messi cup) against big European clubs. More talent to come for sure. Sadly it tends to leave very prematurely now as Mastantuono and Echeverri did.
