Det kan inte bli sämre än i fredags?
Vi inkasserade vår femte förlust på sju matcher I fredags efter 1-2 mot Preston på hemmaplan och nedflyttningsstrecket är nu bara sex poäng bort. Det var en riktigt dålig insats och den första halvleken bör ingen fotbollsintresserad komma ihåg. Två mål av Evans för Preston och Joao slog in en straff mellan Evans mål. Paul Ince efter matchen: “I thought we looked poor first half. We looked tired, we looked lethargic, our passing was off, there was no tempo and no intensity to the game. We’re not a team that has a lot of possession. But we are a team that’s structured, we fight, we get the second balls, when we get into the final third we have quality in the box, none of those things were there in the first half. We’re making silly mistakes, and that’s the disappointing thing. There was not much between the two teams, they weren’t better than us, we weren’t better than them, it was just a case of concentration for 96 minutes, we lacked that and that cost us the game.”
Nu väntar Watford på bortaplan och spelar vi lika dåligt imorgon blir det många mål i baken. Vi är inte direkt favoriter på förhand, ungefär som mot Burnley, och då hade vi kanske vunnit om domarna haft linserna inne men vi måste lyfta oss en fyra, fem nivåer för att ha en chans. Både Holmes och McIntyre kunde spela mot Preston, de gjorde inte direkt sina bästa matcher för säsongen men vi slapp ha tre gubbar i mittförsvaret som egentligen spelar på en annan position. Holmes har spelat varenda minut hittills och ser ut ut som en framtida kapten. Hutchinson kommer närmare och närmare matchtruppen men det blir kanske tidigast mot Hull till helgen vi ser honom igen, vi har bara vunnit en match utan honom så han är viktig. Azeez gjorde ett hattrick under den första halvleken för U23 mot Ipswich så han är på gång men förmodligen först efter uppehållet, i övrigt är Dann, Tetek, Sarr och Moore borta. Ince säger att han kommer att göra ändringar i laget för att fräscha upp saker och ting, Fornah, Long och Joao kom in i fredags och kanske se fram emot att vara med i startelvan, även Guinness-Walker bör ha en chans att starta matchen.
Watford förlorade mot formstarka Coventry med 0-1 senast på hemmaplan och man har varit lite upp och ner under Slaven Bilic, fem segrar och fyra förluster på hans nio matcher vid rodret. Framåt ser man vassa ut med spelare som Sarr, Joao Pedro, Sema och Davis. Man har dock lite problem i försvaret så det kanske vi kan utnyttja om vi får tag på bollen då försvarsduon Kamera och Sierralta är avstängda imorgon, Cathcart kan dock vara tillbaka på försvarssidan imorgon kväll. Senaste segern på Vicarage Road för The Royals kom i januari 2014 när Kaspars Gorkss gjorde matchens enda mål.
Paul Ince inför matchen: ”The Watford game might suit us as we don't have to take it to them. It's not a case of a reaction but it is a reaction as far as the performance is concerned. We're going to Watford who are one of the top teams in the league so it's a reaction about the way we play - we have to be on the front foot, win second balls, win our tackles...that's the way we are. As I have said we are fishing from the bottom of the pond so we haven't got the team and the quality players that Watford have got to a certain degree. But when we are at it, like we were against Burnely, then you give yourselves a chance. When you're not at it, you get beaten by teams like Preston, with no disrespect. The players were disappointed because they didn't perform the way they should have done against Preston. We know if we go to Watford on Tuesday, we have to be at it otherwise we won't stand a chance, and the lads know that."
