Enligt BBC News hemsida har City of London Police hand om misstankar kring mutor och korruption inom fotbollen och deras inverkan på ägare och aktieinnehavare. Och just detta sägs de här razziorna ha handlat om. Det är nämligen så att City of London Police arresterade en 61 årig man för månad sedan som står misstänkt för penning tvätt. Det är här dessa tre klubbar kommer in i bilden men ingen tycks riktigt veta vad som har för sig gått.
Samtidigt har en talesman för Newcastle United gått ut med detta pressmeddelande:
" The club itself is not the subject of the investigation ,"
" If the investigation by the City of London Police, or the ongoing internal review of operations by the club's new owners, show that the club has been the victim of any criminal activity, the club will take appropriate action ."
