Celtic draw Stuttgart

Our European campaign is now really going to get difficult with testing domestic games before our meeting with the German side on 19th February at Celtic Park

It is over 20 years since we last met Stuttgart and I still remember Alan Thomsons' header to open the scoring for us that night in Germany. With a squad that had Hartson and Sutton up front, big strong attackers, we certainly were able to punch above our weight.

We lost that night but we still progressed.

Back in those days we felt anything was possible and in part we were entitled to. We fast forward 23 years and my confidence is not what is was back then.

The first leg will be played on 19th February at home with a guaranteed full house. It would be great to see the Green Brigade back in the stadium for this game, we will need all the support we can get.

We have 5 domestic fixtures before Stuggart and all of them are vital if we want to stay in contention for the league. The squad is already stretched, there are no new signings on the horizon and the potential for injuries and fatigue in the run up to this game is obvious.

So in reality, we will not be in a better position than we are now and in all likely hood we will be in a poorer position.

Of course, we would all be beyond elated if we manage to secure a first leg win, but I feel most of us fans will be hoping for damage limitation.
