Celtic fans’ frustrations at a lack of investment into the squad over the past 12 month has not been eased with the recent loan signing of Tomas Cvancara . Fans discontent with the Boards financial management remains a talking point.

Arriving this week from Borussia Monchengladbach an immediate impact will needed to offset his salary cost of €1m by the end of the season.

His arrival comes as a pivotal time in the season, with a crucial tie against league leaders, Hearts this weekend, quickly followed by the Europa league tie against Utrecht next week.

Our lack of strength throughout the whole squad is a combination of player injuries and a failure to sign quality players. This gap is felt mostly in attack, with scarce options. Benjamin Nygren is our leading scorer with 11 goals. A midfielder, signed for £1.5m as our top scorer by January should sound enough alarm bells.

So, the question is, will Cvancara make a difference? The feeling amongst fans is cautious optimism.

The Good – He is tall and strong, a trait badly lacking in the squad. He has played (arguably out of position) in wide areas, offering flexibility. Prior to losing form he was a prolific goal scorer for Sparta Prague up until 2023

The Bad – For a tall forward, he has rarely scored with his head. His form dropped off dramatically in Germany and was interrupted by Injuries. Even his recent loan spell in Turkey produced little in the way of optimism.

Celtic fans are hoping that a combination of a fresh start, the man management powers of Martin O’Neill and regular matches will invigorate the Czech striker again. He would not be the first player to arrive at Celtic and find form again (Lubo, Hartson, Sutton).
