Hjärtfel stoppar Konowalchuk
Colorado Avalanches forward Steve Konowalchuk lägger skridskorna på hyllan efter 13 säsonger i NHL.

Under den första dagen på Colorados training camp testades samtliga spelares fysiska status. Man gjorde även en grundlig koll av hälsan med bl.a. EKG-tester (hjärtat).
Steve Konowalchuk genomgick en rad olika tester efter att hjärtat slagit oregelbundet och visat tecken på onormala testvärden. Konowalchuk besökte en rad olika specialiser för att utreda sin fysiska status och kom då tillslut fram till att det bästa var att avsluta sin karriär inom hockeyn, sporten som var hans stora kärlek i livet. Men som med allt annat här i livet måste hälsan prioriteras som nummer ett här i livet.
''After a complete evaluation from a number of different physicians and experts associated with this condition, we decided that this was the best and only alternative for me,'' Säger Konowalchuk. ''As much as I'll miss the game of hockey and all that it's provided for my family and I, my health was the number one priority.
''This has been a very painful process, but I'm very proud of a long NHL career and happy to have a lifetime of special memories and friends to take with me.'' avslutar Konowalchuk.
